ipconfig Media Disconnected

My computer encountered a virus a couple of weeks ago. The company I work for gives us free Symantec Antivirus for our home computers and it found the virus. I quarantined & deleted it.

The next day the computer crashed and wouldn't boot up. We were finally able to boot it up in Safe Mode and then again normally....

Now we cannot connect to the internet. We normally connect wirelessly, although now it just says "Local Only". I called Comcast (our provider) and he had me "try" and connect directly through the land line.... now it won't do anything.

He had me do a cmd ipconfig which showed "Media Disconnected". He said it is a problem with the ethernet port?

How do you fix this, if this is really the case?

I want to be able to connect wirelessly or via landline - whichever will work.

Also, before its important to note when it said it was connected locally it was sending and receiving but I could not display a webpage.

Please help!

What operating system and service pack # are you running? What's the make and model # of the machine? What type of ethernet card? What browser(s) are you using? Are there any flags in Device Manager?

Any information you can give us might prove helpful.

 

Try opening cmd as administrator
then type in
ipconfig /release
then press enter
then type ipconfig /renew
then press enter
Notice ther space between ipconfig and the / mark before release and renew !!!!!

 

If that dosen't work try unplugging all connections from your router and modem waiting 30 mins then replug !
