ipconfig /renew too many times!!

At work I always have to run ipconfig /renew to get to the same server. It doesn't happen all the time, it'll happen on someone else, then mine, they swithc, etc...

Anyone know what to do?

 

If it's switching between two computers there is a chance that the server/router that's running the DNS is set to only hand out so many ip's and it's just running out. So each time one computer gets an IP the other one loses it.

If that's the case the way to sovle this would be to increase the number of IPs the server/router can hand out. If it's a router, it may require buying a new router, although usally you can adjust this in the config.

 

Im a little confused. What do you mean the same server? Do you mean your wins and DNS change each time you renew your IP? Most places have one maybe two DHCP servers and multiple DNS servers. So what server are you speaking of?

I think you are on the right track, b/c it's very intermitant and we have seen this problem ever since we stated adding new users.

How do I know if it's the server or router and how do you add more IP's?

Sometimes when I open the command prompt, it'll say V:\\ or somtimes it'll give me the normal documents and settings and go to my user.

Sometimes when we ping the server, it'll show another server's ip and so on..

Thanks for your help. I'm not a network guy, but just work in tech support and our 1 network guy doen't know what to do. It makes me mad b/c sometimes my helpdesk notes are gone b/c I'm not accessing the server when I think I am.
