    I have another iPhone question.

I am trying to help my mother out with something, she has the older iPhone 3GS.

She would like to use it hands-free in her car, so she was wondering what the best option would be since she does not have the iPhone 4s.

Her car has OnStar in it, but she does not want to waste money using that when she has her phone.

The car has has an AUX port so the question if anything can be done with that.....

Does anyone know what to do with this?

Other than using the Bluetooth set-up via OnStar (which I know nothing about), I suppose you have a couple of options:

You can buy a separate Bluetooth enabled device that you'd sync with her phone such as this: http://www.amazon.com/Motorola-T215...IM9G/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1330297309&sr=8-1.

Or through the stereo system, it looks like you can get something like this: http://www.amazon.com/Satechi-Bluetooth-Hands-free-Transmitter-BlackBerry/dp/B000NVYVRO

I don't know anything about just using the AUX. Did you read that somewhere? Unless I'm mistaken, that's basically just auxiliary sound out from your iPhone through your stereo speakers. So you can use it to play your music.

I read somewhere that any Escalade made after 2009 has Bluetooth built into it.(don't think it has anything to do with OnStar)

The car is last years model, so it should be an easy setup. I even found an official How-To video on YouTube so it's fool proof.:-D

I should have thought of this in the first place, but thank you for you reply LauraR.

Yeah, most new cars have bluetooth handsfree option built in. Since you only mentioned OnStar, I thought maybe yours didn't.

I'd think with all the laws going into effect about only handsfree being allowed, all cars will soon be equipped with it.

    Glad you figured it out

I know I am a bit late with this but I thought I would chip in anyway...

The auxilery in can be used to achieve some degree of hands free functionality. You plug the headphone socket into the aux in and the caller comes through your stereo. If you then put the call onto speaker phone it uses the mic in the iphone and works ok.

Technically, in the UK at least, this is still illegal as you have to touch the phone to initiate the call. but it is still safer than driving along with the phone to your ear.

    Hope this helps someone
