Seeking advice from the Mobile Geeks.

What apps do you have installed from the iTunes Store?

    :confused

    I don't use a lot of apps . . . and the apps I do use are generally free (I'm a miser :-D).

For entertainment I have the Kindle App, which is free . . . and you can download tons of free books too! I was amazed at the classic SciFi and such that can be had for nothing. I also have a game called Stupid Zombies (free) which I haven't used in a while. Have a free NASA app, and a few Astronomy apps that are pretty cool (and free). Netflix has a decent, free app . . . very user friendly.

Utility wise I paid for an app called System Status, which monitors and displays various information about your phone: Cpu speed and usage, drive size and usage, running processes, etc. That kind of thing. I think I shelled out 3 bucks for it and I like it, but there are free apps that do pretty much the same stuff. I also use an app called "Gas Cubby" (free version) too keep track of my Colorado's gas usage and average mileage. Handy. The SpeedTest folks have an App for your phone that I use.

Avoid any of the "Battery Saver" apps . . . they do nothing that you can't do yourself with a little research.

I probably have about 50 apps on my phone . . . most free and most I installed on a lark, just to play with. Most I haven't used since the first time I fired them up, and just haven't gotten around to deleting them yet.

I got tons of space. After over two years of use I still have, out of the 13.7GB of space (16GB my a@#, Apple :mad) I still have 8.4GB left. You never know, I might actually use that iflashlight app, or if TEOTWAWKI comes to pass, my SAS Extreme Survival Guide will come in handy ;)

    Thank you Spad,

My phone is an 8GB and I am migrating from a 2 1/2 year old Android Galaxy S (no number, it was cutting edge long ago...)

I had not thought of a mileage app. I have learned how to double click home and kill apps already. ;)

    You're welcome. :)

That's one of my gripes about the iPhone . . . when I close an app window, I'd like the app to be closed. Period dot. Seems silly to have to close it more than once . . . and all those open apps in the background eat up up the RAM which can get in the way of an app I am actually using! Like killing zombies!

One tip you probably already know; if by chance your phone suddenly stops orienting/rotating the screen as you move it horizontal to vertical, etc then you have accidently "locked" it. Took me a bit to figure out what I'd done.

Double click the home button (just like when closing apps), then swipe the list of apps (or the blank bar) to the right, and you expose some controls for music playing AND the lock icon for your screen (circle - looks like an arrow pointing to itself). If there is a padlock in the center of the circle then your screen is locked. Just tap it. Very simple thing, but aggravated the crap outta me for about 10mins. Since that first time I've accidentally locked the screen rotation three times. Dunno how - I'm sure it was when I was closing "closed" apps out. rolleyes

Don't get me wrong - I love the phone!
