i just got a 2gb 2nd gen nano for christmas and i hate the idea of installing quicktime with itunes 7 to manage my ipod. my question is, is there a standalone version of itunes w/o quicktime or can i use yamipod or a similar programme on vista home premium with my ipod? any help will be greatly appreciated.

    Hi

Tried YamiPod with Vista, just did'nt like my iPod Touch, may work ok with 2nd Gen Nano ( may need to run as admin the .exe/shortcut though )

But best option and my fav is Songbird ( its a beta release but works well and from Open Source gurus Pioneers of the Inevitable who work to the Mozilla mission goals ) Its feature rich and works in Vista fine, and can decrypt the net iPod Libraries that 2nd Gens, Classics and Touchs have.

Plus it actually looks kinda like iTunes in layout so you will be pretty happy with the controls.

You can also add add-ons to it too via the neatly titles "Songbird add-ons" menu. Add-ons include one to turn your iPod into a Mass-Storage device, Album Applet to allow you to find the cover for the ripped CDs.
