I just installed itunes8 onto my Dell laptop Inspiron running XP SP3. itunes does not recognize my ipod touch. When I plug the touch into the USB, the computer thinks it is a camera. I attempted to reinstall intunes a couple of times like apple wanted me to to no avail. I found the ipod in the device mgr under Imaging devices. I then tried to update the driver, usbappl.sys but no better. do I have to go back to itunes7? anyone have an idea?
    Thanks

    Hi

    Is your ipod touch jailbroken?

What you could try is in Dev Mgr, (with ipod not plugged in) click the listing under Imaging Devices and choose Driver > then update driver and as you dont have a driver for this, click browse and locate this folder C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\usbaapl.inf_3c16a04b (note the code number at the back maybe different for you) then once clicked the folder click next in the driver wizard and follow the prompts to reinstall the apple usb driver, reboot and plug in your Touch.

This did not work. the iod doesn't show up in the device manager unless it is plugged into the laptop. There are no other imaging devices so that folder isn't shown in Device mgr either.
    What does jailbroken mean?
    Thanks

I've been in and around the Apple support site and it's terrible. I finally solved this by uninstalling all things Apple through Control Panel>Add of Remove Programs, which includes Apple Mobile Device Suport, Apple Software Update, iTunes, and Quicktime.

Then reboot, Install iTunes8, let it find all of the pertinent music and video files, which takes a long time if you have a big library. Then connect the iPod Touch. It still recognized it as a camera/scanner but I cancelled it. Eventually iTunes found the Touch, and all is well, nothing lost.

    Thanks for the help!
