During the last few days my wireless has been terrible about dropping to limited and/or displaying 'the page cannot be displayed'. After a couple days of this I de-selected IPv6 on the network adapter. The wireless returned to normal operation. But, I'm wondering if holiday traffic might have been loading the carrier since Christmas day happened about this same time. Maybe people slowed downed on last minute shopping and cleared the path.

I've looked at sites to see whether ipv6 is needed or not and it's a mixed bag of thought. Seems to be a search can time out looking for ipv6 address before falling back to ipv4. I only have 2 pc's here that may ever be networked together so am wondering if v6 is even needed.

    Any thoughts?

It's on by default in 10 but I keep it turned off. My Google calendar in particular takes an age to load when it's turned on. This site too quite often. It doesn't affect my LAN at all.

Here's a vote for disable with instructions for the correct way to do it

And a vote for not disabling

So I guess it boils down to your particular situation.
Since I never use Remote Assistance, HomeGroup, DirectAccess or Windows Mail, disabling it would have no affect on any of the computers in use in our home.

Until you posted that I had no idea there was a 'proper' way to disable it as I simply uncheck it in the adapter properties. That seems to have the desired effect with no discernible side effects.

plodr - I saw those articles while looking into this. The registry keys need to be set and such for proper disabling, but as Earthling says, I got results just buy unbinding the adapter. I'm running monthly scans right now and after this holiday period is over may try the real fix on disabling and then re-enabling to see if I can see the difference. I don't use any of the applications listed so my only way of knowing is by how my connection re-acts or maybe by looking at packets to see the additional data sent/received.

I hadn't known of this till recently. Maybe anyone with some more insight can say something , too.
