To Answer the question as best I can. I bought the computer with the problem. I was emailed the error message I posted. I was told it happens randomly. Sometimes at first start up, within 5 mins, 15 mins, hours or not at all. I just picked it up last night and have not had the issue myself but would like to know the solution. I was told from the seller it had something to do with a memory or media card? I appreciate any and all help on this.

    IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

    Explanation:

This Stop message indicates that a kernel-mode process or driver attempted to access a memory address to which it did not have permission to access. The most common cause of this error is an incorrect or corrupted pointer that references an incorrect location in memory. A pointer is a variable used by a program to refer to a block of memory. If the variable has an incorrect value in it, the program tries to access memory that it should not. When this occurs in a user-mode application, it generates an access violation. When it occurs in kernel mode, it generates a STOP 0x0000000A message. If you encounter this error while upgrading to a newer version of Windows, it might be caused by a device driver, a system service, a virus scanner, or a backup tool that is incompatible with the new version.

    User Action:

This error usually occurs after the installation of a buggy device driver, system service, or BIOS. To resolve it quickly, restart your computer, and press F8 at the character-mode menu that displays the operating system choices. At the resulting Windows 2000 Advanced Options menu, choose the Last Known Good Configuration option. This option is most effective when only one driver or service is added at a time. If you encounter this error while upgrading from Windows NT 4.0 or earlier, it might be caused by a device driver, a system service, a virus scanner, or a backup tool that is incompatible with the new version. If possible, remove all third-party device drivers and system services and disable any virus scanners prior to upgrading. Contact the software manufacturers to obtain updates of these tools. For additional error messages that might help pinpoint the device or driver that is causing the error, check the System Log in Event Viewer. Disabling memory caching of the BIOS might also resolve this error. You should also run hardware diagnostics supplied by the system manufacturer, especially the memory scanner. For details on these procedures, see the owners manual for your computer. If your system has small computer system interface (SCSI) adapters, contact the adapter manufacturer to obtain updated Windows 2000 drivers. Disable sync negotiation in the SCSI BIOS, check the cables and the SCSI IDs of each device, and confirm proper termination. For enhanced integrated device electronics (EIDE) devices, define the onboard EIDE port as Primary only. Also, check each EIDE device for the proper master/slave/stand-alone setting. Remove all EIDE devices except for hard disks. If the message appears during an installation of Windows 2000, make sure that the computer and all installed peripherals are listed on the Microsoft Windows 2000 Hardware Compatibility List (HCL) on http://www.microsoft.com. For more troubleshooting information about this Stop message, refer to the Microsoft Knowledge Base at http://support.microsoft.com/support.

    thebigd and thesmokingun,

Thank you for your assistance. Once again answers from the best computer website on the net. Beings that I am a little podunc it will take me a bit to fully understand the remedy's. The funny part is I know where to look just from messing around with computers in the past. I know dangerous I am.

I believe that programs were removed prior to my getting the computer and the issue may have been resolved by the previous owner without their knowledge. The computer is a bit older. 2004 Dell inspiron 8600. From what I can tell they have yet to ever use the office program as from checking them out I was prompted to register the office programs. It came with all disks. I am considering reinstall all software before really setting it up for myself do you guys feel this might also resolve the issue.

Other than standard operating software wp home edition the only other software is microsoft office 2003.

if you have all the disks, i would just use the recovery cd and revert everything back to factory defaults. just make sure you have the correct windows key...either from the sticker on the side or back of the case, or on the cd envelope.

or you can use a cd-key finder to make sure you have the correct one:

Thanks to everyone for your help.
I still have yet to get this error message since I started using the puter. I was having some issues with explorer shutting down with more than one tab open. I fixed that(firefox rules:-D).

The Error Message I posted was emailed to me from the previous owner. It was the issue she was having and sorta the reason she sold the puter. She claimed that all she really used it for was watching videos.

Figured I fill everyone in as to where I am at with this thing.

    Cheers,
    Jeb

I finaaly had the issue with the IRQL error thing. I was in the cities and working with the battery. There were other networks available and I think that the pute was trying to connect from a bad connection? Is that possible?

What I got was what I believe is referred to as the blue screen of death. I had to pull the power to the computer to get it to shut down. I wanted to attach the event properties from the event viewer but I am afraid that might get a little lengthy. I also have to figure out how to do it.

    Please help if you can.
    Thanks,
    Jeb

One more thing I thought I would add. I have internet through TMOBILE, a modem card cellular connection. In my internet connections it is showing that I am connected to the 1934 connection as well is that correct? It seemed that when I was having the issues last night it was because of conflicting internet connections.

Alot of the errors in the event viewer refer to ipsec, tcp/ip netbios, etc.. not starting do to an attached device not functioning. Maybe that will help.
