I got a XFX 6600GT and i been wanting to upgrade to a BFG 6600GT or a 6800GS, problem is I cant figure out which is better.
    BFG 6800GS 256MB specs:
    core-370
    memory-1050
    pipelines-12

    BFG 6600GT 128MB specs:
    core-525
    memory-1050
    pipelines-8

So which is better?

    A 6800GS is more powerful, but it's not a huge upgrade from a 6600GT.

More like a step up rather than a huge performance increase.

what would be a huge upgrade for an agp user like me then?

One of the flavours of 6800 is about the best for your system.

Aren't you happy with your 6600 GT?

the 6800gs has more pixel pipelines so it is a better card, but I wouldn't reccomend an upgrade unless you can get a 7800gt or better, the 6600gt is still a decent card, thats what I am using and it plays anything at 30+fps from my experience, less demanding games like WoW get up to 60+fps which is beautiful:)

EDIT: didn't see your post about agp, in that case, maybe stick with the 6600gt for a while and then get a whole new mobo, agp is goign the way of the floppy.

well, if you really want top performance maybe you shoudl upgrade to a pci-e mobo, like I said, the 7800gt is a great card, I am aiting though, for a DX10 compatible card to come out next year.

nVidia also makes a 7800 for AGP, 7800GS.

However, his processor is better suited to a 6800 or similar.

so I would be better off getting the 6800GS instead of a 7800GT?

noooo, the 7800gs is just an agp version of the 7800gt which is MUCH better than any 6800. I don't think 6600gt-6800gs is worth it, not enough of a performance increase to justify spending $200 on a video card, with the 7800gs on the otehr hand you will see A HUGE jump in performance.

well does the 7800gs fit my specs ok? cause i dont want any probs with it.

Your processor won't take full advantage of it, but you are better off with a 7800GS as far as performance is concerned.

If you don't want to spend that much, then look at a 6800GS.

(A 7800 will allow you to run games at high resolution and max detail)

And yes it will "fit your specs OK".

yes. The cpu might be a bit of a bottleneck but I think ti would run alright.

I'm curious, why aren't you happy with your 6600GT?

it just aint delivering the performance i want.i mean dont get me wrong its a great card but i want better performance i even oc'ed the stupid thing and it couldnt power far cry as good as reviewers siad it could.so thats y i need a new video card and thats y this one is goin on ebay as soon as i get my 7800GS and that money is goin towards some ram or a higher cpu.

you can't play far cry well on a 6600gt? try updating your drivers, I have a 6600gt and have had no problems, lowest framerate I ever get is 30fps(quake 4) at 1280x1024 your 6600gt should have no problem playing farcry

well see i am able to play it but not at the graphic levels that i want it to be at.see i want it to play far cry to its full potential but it doesnt.i cant turn the shadows up past low or i get these big black boxes on the ground, cant turn special effects past medium cause the game will start to get green pulses in the sceneary models, and cant turn lighting past low or when i throw a grenade and the grenade blows up it leaves a big black box on the ground.so thats why im not happy with my 6600gt and i cant play doom3 at high settings.thats why im getting a new card this one just doesnt cut it for me.

A 6600GT is great for average resolutions without detail turned up.

Anything more than that, and they don't cope well.

If you want something better, I'd go for the 7800GS.

It's the most powerful AGP card there is currently.

anything that surpasses the 7800GS in agp video cards?

    No, I don't think so.

The 7800GS is the fastest AGP card that I know of.
