Is a Catalyst Nessecary?

I was wondering if the ATI catalyst software and "hydra vision" is really needed. It makes my computer take a few seconds longer to boot up (hey, i'm picky). Can I just not have it open on startup? You know, like just go into msconfig and uncheck the little box next to the ATI stuff in the Startup tab.

 

Hydravision isn't needed, unless you want the multimon features of it.

Catalyst is the drivers. So yes, you need it. If you don't like the control center, then you can download drivers that don't have it.

Although if you set those items not to load on startup, then they won't affect boot time.

 

Allright, here's what happens. Its not the actually "boot time" persay. The computer boots, and I get to the windows welcome screen just fine. I type in my password and it loads my account. It loads it and displays my desktop but I can't do much yet. I wait a few seconds, the screen flickers, and then the ati catalyst Icon is now loaded onto my system tray. So I guess what I asking is, can I turn of the control center so my screen doesn't flicker everytime I log onto my windows account.

 

Remove it from your startup and see how it works out for you.

It wont hurt anything.
