Is ATI doing better since AMD has taken them over? I say so

I think their 5xxx series has really layed down the gauntlet on Nvidia, they don't really have anything to match it! Most of ATI's top cards don't even have a competitor from NV.

I think that AMD have done better with the Phenom II and Athlon II's as well.

I think so, even though I've never liked Nvidia and always prefered AMD over Intel, I have noticed much more talk of ATI's over NV in the last year or so.
I also think ATI started taking the lead with the higher end 4000 series and the 5K's have just boosted it a little further.

    Hi

Its hit and miss, always been the same in the nVidia vs ATi area, one takes the lead for a while then the other one bounces back with better products, in the end they are a mu h of a muchness, all that prevails is brand loyalty, if you love ATi your an fan for life similar to nVidia fans (doesnt cover all users but does alot)

Most users apart from the very dedicated dont buy the latest hardware cards, we end up judging cards by benchmarks which in all honesty i take with a large pinch of salt, far rather real world test, so in the midfield they are about equal IMHO.

I do still think ATi's seak point is drivers.

I agree with Halo- ATI has always been famous for weak drivers, even though there have been a few snafus lately with the newest NVidia drivers for the new Fermi GPUs (for example: there was the fan problem where the driver "forgot" to ramp up the fan speed when the card was working hard resulting in thermal crashes), but these have been sorted out. I have always been a die-hard NVidia fan (but I have owned an ATI card and it was excellent at the time). Also, the current crop of new ATI cards are top dog in the GPU world, and even the newest NVidia cards don't always beat them, they do in some benches, but not in others. One thing I've noticed is that the ATI fans have been putting the NVidia GTX480 up against the ATI HD5970, and the GTX480 will lose every time. This is because the HD5970 is a dual GPU card, and the GTX480 is a single GPU card. So, naturally, the card with two GPUs will win. But with the GTX480 up against the the HD5870 (a single GPU card), the HD5870 usually wins by a small margin at mid range resolutions. The GTX480 seems to excel at the higher resolutions, but, again, the margin is small. But the way I look at it is this: as long as the card will do what you want it to at the resolution you want it to, what difference does it make? The human eye sees about 32fps as "real time" or fluid motion, and as low as 28-29fps still looks more-or-less fluid to us puny humans. Taking this into consideration, it really makes no difference if you get 35fps or 350fps, it will still look the same. The thing people want is all the details turned up (shadows, reflections, "god" rays, particles, etc). If you can still get over 30fps with everything cranked up, then it shouldn't matter if you have an MX4000 or a GTX480.
    LOL

(I'm waiting for prices on the previous NVidia crop to come down now that the GTX4xx series is out - I'm thinking the GTX2xx pricing will come down, then I can afford to go SLI!)

On the other hand - I've also been a big fan of AMD processors! roflmao So I guess my loyalties are a bit mixed up. I'm currently running an AMD PhenomII quad with an NVidia GTX260. I haven't run an Intel CPU since I had a Pentium3 hand-me-down like 8 years ago!
