Is AVG Free slower than Avast?

Depends on how many files and drives they need to scan, tbh dont worry about lenght of time to scan, worry about accuracy, you could install a scanner than does a scan in say 10 minutes but it may miss infected files and thats usless.

I use and have used AVAST for near 4yrs dont think its any quicker in a full scan than any others, it does for me give great protection ( but the main area of protection to a PC and I will always say this is the person behind the keyboard ), but like many other AVs it does also suffer from the odd false positive so you do need to check the file names of any it finds as malware against being legit files.

Both are good but one thing tends to pop out at me alot is that AVGs updater can be prone to failure, either the app or their servers, while I have had no problems with Avast and their update routines.

 

Scanning time depend on not only how many files have to be scanned by the speed of the computer. So it is impossible to see one is faster or slower than another unless you compare both products on the same computer.
