    Hi,

The battery on my Lenovo laptop stopped getting charged. Since it's about 3 years old, I bought a new battery.
However, the new battery is not being charges either.

I checked the voltage between all the connectors going to the battery from the back of the laptop, and below is what I found (the connectors/poles with yellow colour are the ones being tested. When a pair is not indicated, the voltage was 0).

[-]_NNNDCN[+]: voltage drops by 0.01V every ~3 seconds. Currently at 1.96.
    [-]_NNNDCN[+]: 3.16V, stable.
    [-]_NNNDCN[+]: 3.26V, stable.
    [-]_NNNDCN[+]: 3.26V, stable.
    [-]_NNNDCN[+]: 2.02V, stable.

[-]_NNNDCN[+]: voltage rises by 0.01V every ~3 seconds.
[-]_NNNDCN[+]: voltage rises by 0.01V every ~3 seconds.
[-]_NNNDCN[+]: voltage rises by 0.01V every ~3 seconds.
[-]_NNNDCN[+]: voltage drops by 0.01V every ~3 seconds.

From the above I can see that when [-]_NNNDCN[+] are connected, I don't get the expected 9.6V to 12.6V.

Does the above indicate that the laptop's charging circuitry is faulty ?

    Thanks,
    Ron.

P.S.: Laptop is Lenovo 3000 Y200 (Disney). OS are Windows 7 and Ubuntu 10.10.

Since the PC is 3 years old, I second turnered's theory the power supply is bad.

Either the power brick itself or the cord running from the brick to the PC could be bad.

You should be able to find a quality aftermarket power supply for much less than an OEM Lenovo unit (just remember to set the output voltage to that of the old power supply).

I've used this one - it seems to do the job well plus plugs into both a wall outlet or car cigarette lighter:

    Hope this helps. :)

    I think I don't understand you, tunered:
the power supply is okay, as the laptop is working now basically without a battery (the battery is completely empty), namely - it's working directly off the power supply that is connected to the A/C. If there's a power outage, the laptop shuts down.

    Hi All,

There are no charger components in the AC Adaptor. It only supplies the raw DC voltage to run the computer and the charger. If it's running the computer it is probably OK. There are probably no charger components in the computer. There is a Micro Processor built into the battery pack. It monitors each individual cell in the pack for chargeing and reporting the condition of the battery. Reading the battery contacts at the computer with the battery out probably will give no real help. Your problem is probably the battery pack itself. Hope this helps someone.

    Good Luck, Jim
