Is Cnet Safe?

I have several Iobit products on my PCs. When an update becomes available they do not come directly from Iobit but from CNET. I have two questions about this:

    1. Why would they provide their updates through a third party and not directly from their own Web site?
    2. Is CNET, the third party used by Iobit, a safe Web site? I have a recollection of being told, as an incidental matter, about something else I posted about telling me CNET was an unsafe Web site.

CNET isn't 'unsafe', but it has a proprietary installer for some software that will download/install PUPs.

    I use SUMo.

The program allows you to select the download from various file hosting sites including MajorGeeks.

Here's another vote for SUMo lite, though wherever possible I come to MG for my updates.

I never had an issue with the Iobit driver booster.I like it better than some of the other so called updaters.

A lot of them request that you make a payment be for you install any updates.

Sumo and driver booster are the only ones i really trust.

I tried really hard to convince Iobit years ago to get rid of Cnet downloads.

I haven't used CNET since they switched to where they want you to download their downloader/updater tool. It doesn't force you to though if you know where to look. As for Iobit using CNET for their files. It saves them money on bandwidth by using CNET servers instead of their own.

    UPDATE
Looking at the website, it looks like their downloader no longer exists as I cannot find it anywhere on their website.

SUMo lite is very good as are every download on Majorgeeks for various apps, but for SUMo lite the great thing is Kyle the developer is a active member on this forum and has been since 2004, so always shoot him a post in the SUMo thread if you have issues or good suggestions as he is always receptive to ideas.
