Is Ftp What I Am Looking For???

I need to know what kind of a link, what kind of a destination, and how to set it all up for people to go to a page on the internet to read instructions and download files I have created on how to do something. I know that sounds weird so I'll try to explain . . .

I am in a crunch situation where I need to launch a campaign fund raiser the week of Nov. 26, 2018 for my wife who just found out she has cancer. There are some promotional literature files that I have created in MS Publisher 2016 of which I want to give access to people to download and print those literature pieces.

Therefore, I need to know IF there is a means by which I can set up a page on the internet for people to visit for downloads and literature instructions. I do have a few available URL's if they will help any, but, there are not any website(s) associated with those URL's

There are two more things I need to ask of the forum. First, this is a stressful time in life and I wish I knew more about this phase of computer technology than what I do. That said, If there is any way to do what I've asked could I additionally ask the forums help in spelling out the steps I need to do to make this happen? I don't have the patience to take 5 or so days to read between lines and figure things out on my own. BUT - I can follow instructions VERY WELL.

Secondly, I have asked a question on MS Publisher's forum but I am concerned about the extreme low volume of replies and participation on that forum. I would like to ask the MG forum the same question also. Here it is:

I have designed 2 each .pub files. These are promo literature pieces (double sided post cards and double sided name cards) I am using to promote a fund raiser.

Is there any means by which I can furnish interested donors with a file they can print WITHOUT having Microsoft Publisher installed on their computer? . . . Kind of like [self executing] files. I would provide people with links to my promo piece files along with the Avery model number card stock they should use for each of the two files. Then they load the respective card stock into their printer(s) and use my supplied files OUTSIDE of MS Publisher to print as many copies as they desire of their preferred file.

If further elaboration is needed on anything I have placed in this thread please ask me and I will do the best I can to clarify.

Thank you for going outside the box and helping me with this thread. It would mean a lot to have the forums help.

    Kind regards, Dekade

Why don't you start a blog?

I don't currently have Microsoft Publisher installed. However, I recall that Publisher files can be saved as Word files. If you select the .doc format, those can then be opened by most word processors. Or save the Publisher file as a .pdf document.
Also, Publisher has a 'Pack and Go' feature which is worth exploring.

i'm not sure what you mean by -> having URL's available.
are they associated with a domain name, or your internet provider?

who do you use to connect to the internet?
most internet service providers will allow you to host a small personal website,
on their servers, and no domain name is needed.
you would have to call up your internet provider, to see if they do this,
and if they do, then they could email you instructions on how to upload files to it.
which you could then share with us.

ftp is used to upload files to a web hosting service.

    64bit

i would take eldon's advice and save those files as .doc files, { RTF files would work as well }.

in one sense, it sounds like all you need is one page that explains what is golng on,
that also contains links to download those files. that is simple enough to do and to explain,
but figuring out where on the internet you can put them, is more important initially,
so if you can expand on the meaning of those "available URL's" some more, that would be helpful.

    Eldon and harmless -
Sorry for the delay. I just got up here in the USA Midwest, 7:15am CDT. Thank you so much for starting the ball rolling. I have an hour of work to do and then I can get started on your help offerings.

, IN THE MEANTIME - I meant to say I own a few DOMAIN names but no active websites (it was a long day yesterday ). My ISP is Comcast.

Eldon - great insight on the publisher info. I will be following it through for sure to see if it can play out.

I hate to go the expense of getting a website host. I hope I don't have to go that route. I might check out Wix and see if there is something really cheap. My Domain names were purchased from Namecheap. I have not checked their website yet to see if anything is offered by them.

I'm going to leave this discussion for about an hour. I will be anxious to get back and see what's up.

    Thanks forum - Dekade

From what I have reviewed so far, the Pack and Go is MS Publisher specific. But, that is not necessarily a negative. Pack and Go can also package in a .PDF format. That feature would possibly give me the generic slant on my venture. I have to now run some tests to see the results and to see if Abobe Acrobat Reader can print to Avery templates.

I still am lost on the file linking (per post #1) for allowing people to read instructions and download files for printing.

i briefly looked at the wordpress site, because you can set up a free blog at their site,
    https://wordpress.com/create-blog/
but the first piece of information they wanted was your domain name.
since you have that, you can do everything through your web browser at the wordpress site.
it does appear that you will need to point your domain name at your wordpress blog,
so you would need to go into your account at namecheap and configure your domain name to use
wordpress' DNS servers. and actually though, no matter where your site ends up, you will have to point
your domain name to the web site, and you do that through the DNS settings for your domain name at namecheap.

if you do go with a web host. a web page is nothing more than a text file.
    http://hallsted.ws/misc/2018/my_index_html.txt
this is a sample index page that you cold use, just rename the file index (dot) html
it shows sample links. copy it, rename it, and you can view it in your web browser.

    keep us informed.

I understand exactly where you are going with this suggestion and I do agree there is great potential. My hesitation comes in the learning curve. I'm not afraid of learning curves but I am concerned with going at a significant learning curve while in stress mode. Pretty much been operating with a subdued headache for weeks now.
A web host is receiving a dedicated interest focus. I stumbled across https://www.weebly.com/#/
This is really interesting because they have a Basic FREE offering that a person can start with. I did a chat with a representative from there and he explained it all. You can actually make a website in Weebly. Wix is another option but they have nothing free to enter in with. The limitations to Weebly Basic Free are 500+MB starter site size and maximum 10MB file size per file to upload files to my webpage that can be downloaded by anyone. Therefore, I am making certain as to whether or not I can keep my uploads to 10MB. Now, if I were to upgrade Weebly to the next tier then for $96.00 up front for a year of hosting I can increase my file sizes to . . . I think it was a few GB's. ALSO - I can then use my own domain name. If I go with basic it would be Weebly.com/mydomainname. So, all that said, Weebly has some potential as a quick study and fast integration into the game plan.
