Just saw a story in USA Today about Internet Explorer 8. Is it out of Beta and ready for us non-Geeks?

    Hi Frybo

Personally yes I think it is and with many new features its new and different, some features other popular browsers have had for some time, but many of them didnt originally create these features, but some do them better and some worse.

IE8 has been out for nearly a week and not noticed many issues posted on this forum against it, one thing I will highlight and one that NICKADSLUK has pointed out to me is that users of Spybot S&D have noticed some slowness in opening IE8 but then this is an issue with Spybot and they need to update their app, other add-ons also may not work until they are updated, this again Firefox suffers from in Add-on compatability between versions, so check that your favoured add-ons have updates.

I have now installed IE8 on 2 XP, 6 Vista and use it in Windows 7 on two PCs and works great is quicker I feel than IE7.

But browsers are like underwear, we all have our favs, but I think its ready for primetime.

Appreciate the replies. I want to try it. Should I keep IE7 going, just in case?

As others have indicated this is the basic new non beta 8.0 version and it's good to go. I'm running XP Home and upon installing, it advised me that the Drive Letter Access IE add-on could cause crashes due to incompatibility at present. I selected the option to install IE 8 with the DLA add-on disabled. No problems with 8.0 have been noted. I would not uninstall IE 7 yet and I'm not sure it's designed to be readily uninstalled as there many IE 7 files located in C\Windows as well as C\ProgramFiles\Internet Explorer. Anyone experiencing incompatibility with other programs or functions could simply roll back to IE 7 til those fixes are in.

IE 8 is out of beta and ready to use, it overwrites IE7 browser but if you dont like IE8 you can add / remove it from control panel and it will take you back to IE7 browser.

Thanks, Sexy (I'm only 78). IE8 is working fine for me so far.
