I currently run Windows ME and am getting very tired of constant memory proplems. Right now, its running at 49% and I can't find ANYTHING wrong so, I am thinking of moving to XP. Is it a wise move or not? I have 376 meg of ram but can add more. I have AMD Anthlon processor rated at 450 Mhtz. Any suggestions?

ME on any comp has always been a prob for me. Especially with the performance. I have updated them all to 200 or XP. It would seem you have enuff ram to viably run XP or Win 2K. They take a bit more hd dr but if you have a little leeway on the hd dr, I'd say go for it. However, you may want to wait for info from a more experienced poster than I .

Its not going to run terribly fast...to be honest, I'd reccomend 2000 over XP for that system.

I have adequate hard drive space (80 gig). Are you suggesting that 376 is too small ram? I can easily install more if that is the problem. I'm so tired of having so many difficulties.

Well, the ram is a little low, but would function fine.

The CPU is more what I was referring to.

WIndows 2000 would be much snappier on that computer, and to be honest, there aren't a whole lot of differences, aside from some user "friendly" wizards, and eye candy. Deep down, they are almost identical.

He's right. I have a 500MHz AMD K-6 CPU, 80 GB HD and 320 MB RAM with Windows 2000 for my kids. When I replaced the original HD with the current one, I tried XP home out of curiosity. It ran rather slowly compared with W2K, even with the graphic enhancements and unneeded services disabled.

Only thing with Windows 2000 is that some games don't run, or are buggy, and some drivers aren't available.

If you are in that category, I would go for 98 SE which can be bought for next to nothing.

If not, 2000 is a good choice.

Whichever way you go, they are both huge improvements over Windows ME, but just check that it meets your requirements.
