    Greetings Geeks-

It is I a again. It seems I have series of posts related to the same issue in response to new problems that keep arising. So I apologize for any overlap.

I have a botched Windows 10 volume I am in the process of diagnosing to discover if the problem is just bad files or actually a defective hard drive. My next step is to run some hard drive diagnostics. If the drive checks out, I am going to reinstall Windows 10 on that same drive with the same accompanying hardware. My license is from the update offered by MS, I did not purchase a copy. I do have a WIndows 10 ISO image I have been using to try to repair the install - so my question is can I reinstall Windows from the ISO? If so, how will identify the serial key? I have used the command prompt in an attempt to retrieve my serial # with no luck.

I really don't wan to buy a new hard drive and a new copy of WIndows 10. Thank your for any help.

You asked the same question in your other thread, and had the position explained.

Since the upgrade to Windows 10 was from Windows 7, the Product Key from the sticker on your computer is the Key you use.

I have seen defective RAM corrupt an OS.

Which machine are you re-imaging and how old is it? Have you done thorough hardware diagnostics?

Well, as far I can tell the drive checks out, I am using SeaTools by Seagate. And I was finally able to install Windows 10 from a USB ISO. As far as I can tell, Windows performed a remote check to verify my serial key. I checked the Activation menu in the system settings and it states "Window is activated with a digital license" so I assume I check out as ok.

Thanks for all of the help. This has been an absolute nightmare just for a video card upgrade. I still need a monitor. I shudder at the thought of demons that await for that simple upgrade.
