running Win Media Player on XP takes a lot of CPU, usage stats have gone up from 45% to over 60%. It does not matter what versio of the player is used. 9, 10 or 11. CPU usage increases significantly. Is this due to XP? WMP version 9 running on 2K does not take that much CPU. Comments? Suggestions?

I have WMP 10 and it sure doesn't use that much CPU on MY XP SP2 box.
Usage never went above 4% while playing music.

I have xp 2000 pro and wmp 10 I run it in skin mode with visualizations and the cpu usage runs up and down from 18% to 61%, this will also fluctuate if I change my wmp view, visualizations I also have GForce which will run the usage up.

Yep.. I would be looking either at the files you are executing on WMP, or the program itself!

Maybe there is a flaw there somewhere which is causing your CPU resource drain.

The CPU usage jumps esp if streaming is on...

For some reason if running in skin mode, the cpu usage is much high. With full mode it is down to reasonable proportions - varying between 4 and 25 %. Streaming from internet radio stations does require higher cpu usage. This is with Version 10.
