Symptoms of a short... er loose wiring

    Is this a new PC?

How do you know it's not booting? what's the monitor doing? check the Monitor

Back to shorting, check all connections R & R all, check for skinned wires, check for loose screws, even burn marks on the MOBO
If this is new build did you install the MOBO stand offs in the correct positions/locations?

    Try resetting CMOS :major

Asus offers good advice. Try removing the mobo from the case, place it on a non-conductive surface, hook up only the essentials: CPU, RAM, PSU, and video card if on board video is not available. If you still get nothing, there's a good chance it is the mobo. If you have more than one RAM stick, use one at a time. If you have more than one video card, again, one at a time. CPUs don't fail very often, so if you get nothing, it's probably the mobo. I've seen something as negligible as a bad floppy drive cause a PC to not POST.....

have you got to have a hd connected dlb.nothing from the moniter unless disconected from vid card then of course reports no signal. I've got an opinion its the mb although its only about 4yrs old particularly suspious as there are no beeps. I geuss it serves me right for buying a gigybyte board never liked it give me abit or msi everytime:cry

Do what dlb suggested - no POST beeps doesn't always mean a failed mobo - a failed video card can have the same effect for instance. This is why you should disconnect everything and I would include the video card in this. You could leave the HD connected to start with and see if it POSTs. If it does then start by replacing the RAM a stick at a time and then the other devices, again one at a time until you find the failed device.

Of course if it doesn't POST with nothing connected then it points at the mobo having died.
