Can anyone help please my PC for the last few days has been really slow to load anything (websites downloads updates) i tried all i know cleaning out the rubbish and so on but to no avail it was still soooooooo slow it takes about 20 seconds just to open MGs and the same when i go to another post.

i have just done a test download from MGs and where before i got almost 400Kbs i am now at 18 to 20Kbs so i do knot know what else to do.

as a last resort i re-formatted and there is no change so its not a program running that's the problem as i now have nothing in the PC except FF and D-Link router.

any help gratefully received thanks in advance.:confused:confused:confused

you may try resetting modem and router. Also you can hook directly to modem and if speeds increase you know its a router problem. Hope this helps

i have reset the router and to do it i have to connect with the Ethernet cable but it is just the same, its a D-Link DIR-635 with a DWA-140 dongle and it tells me that i have 98% signal so it's not that

ps it's only 3 months old and has an 11 year guarantee.

Try running a speedtest at dslreports.com, could be your ISP is wacked.

Have you tried directly connecting the modem to pc, so not using the router? Try calling your ISP and see if they can help also.

i did re-format on Friday morning so i can not go back before that as i said in the first post i tried everything i could an as a last resort re-formatted the disk but nothing seems to solve this mystery.

on Tuesday morning (it's not open Monday) i will take the router and PC to a friend who builds computers and see if he can get it sorted if i don't find the problem in the meantime.:confused:confused:confused:confused:confused:confused

I was hoping to get to the local PC engineer today but too many problem came up and now its closed until morning so i have been trying myself again.

one thing i have found is if i run task manager while i use the PC it will run at 100% when i am working on any application but when i am on the web it will not get above 3% and mostly times out on web pages I.E. if i try to open another page on MGs i have to refresh 3 or 4 times and it just hangs and will not load the page.

does anyone know if there is something i can do to rectify this or do i need a new processor????

    THANKS

Not sure if this will help, but I had a similar problem with IE 7. Switched to Mozilla Firefox and it works great, especially on the old "problem" sites.

OP clearly states in Post #1 that he IS running FF, not IE7. Please post only relevant advice.

Personally, I would try a PCI ethernet card. New ones are under $20 for a regular ol' 10/100 card, and about $40 or so for a gigabit 10/100/1000 card. Just keep the receipt in case the new ethernet adapter doesn't fix the problem ;)
    Good luck!
    and Happy Holidays! :wine
