I am building a new computer but i am not exactly sure about the power consumption. I just don't wanna screw up my first build on Christmas. lol

Is a cooler master extreme power 500W enough?

    Here is my build:

    Case:
    Antec 900
    Motherboard:
    http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813138105
    CPU:
    http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103289
    RAM:
    http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227178
    Video card:
    http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121272
    Sound card:
A old sound blaster live 5.1 from old pc
    Hard disk:
    160 Western digital hard drive
    optical drive:
1 lg 16x dvd burner and reader

Or do i have to get a 650w?

I looked up the specs for your PSU (available here) and IMO the 500w is barely enough to run everything with a good degree of stability. Upgrading your PSU is probably a good idea. But you should wait until some other folks add their opinions....
    :-D

I am inclined to agree with dlb on this one. I would consider another PSU somewhere between 650 and 750 would suffice nicely plus give you room to upgrade in the future. Something like this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371010 or maybe http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371009 or thishttp://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817256045
Regardless of which one you choose, just make sure it is a brand name like Antec, OCZ, Silverstone, ThermalTake, etc. Stay away from the 'el-cheapos!!';)

I agree with them. Always better to have a few extra watts than not enough!

Hey Stubby, I like the 'racing stripes' on the Antec PSU you linked to. :-D

just another suggestion, did you know that motherboard is MicroATX? it's smaller, and everything gets crammed in....you might want to verify that you will be able to fit what you need on it....and you will also need an aftermarket cooling fan for that cpu, the black editions don't come with one.

    thanks to all of you.

I notice is micro ATX , but it should fit everything, i'll try my best to get a ATX if it is in stock. i have notice most of the newer ones are micro atx. until you reach the really nice mother boards which is out of my budget.

I have narrow down to 2 psu but i don't know what is the difference between them:
    OCZ GameXStream 700W
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817341002&Tpk=OCZ GameXStream 700W

    OCZ StealthXStream 700W
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...tealthXStream 700W Power Supply - Active PFC,

    what is the difference?

I don't think you can go wrong with either one. If it was me, I would get the StealthXStream OCZ700SXS simply because it shows the efficiency rating (>85) whereas the other does not, so it is most likely lower.

I checked the specs on both PSUs and #2 has, what they call, EPS12V. I googled 'EPS12V' and to be totally honest with you, I'm not sure what it means!:-o I did notice, however, that neither one of the 2 PSUs you choose has modular cabling. Since you're using a micro board, modular cabling would sure cut down on the cable clutter inside the case. Modular cabling is, by no means, needed, it just look neater!!

Yeah, Fred_G those 'racing stripes,' are pretty cool, huh? One things for sure, after reading the specs for that PSU, my next build will have one of those in it!! As a matter-of-fact, it may be a good idea for me get that one now while it's on sale. Hey, $100.00 off isn't a bad deal!! Okay, now that I decided, I have only one more obstacle to overcome......it's called a WIFE!!!
