I was attempting to do an alongside install of ubuntu 16.04 on my samsung pc. The samsung is 6 year old basic thing, on which I recently installed 32 bit win10 (which has been a big problem constantly freezing). Anyway, I was on about the 5th screen of the install of ubuntu (off of a usb stick) when I decided I had better back out of the install (as it was not giving me an option to do an alongside install, and the system crashed to black screen). I can now get ubuntu running on it, (I still don't have it fully installed) but when I change the boot order to boot with the internal hitachi hdd, I come up with a black screen with a flashing _ at the top left of the screen. I thought I had a backup for win10 on an external HD, however, when I plug it in it says boot is compressed, press ctr alt del to restart and I end up with the same black screen. Is win10 toast now on my samsung, I really need to try and salvage it.

Oh dear... I do hope someone will point you in the right direction.
If you have files that you wish to recover from the deleted partition then a number of choices. Taking the HD out of the samsung and connecting it via USB caddy to a working PC. Useful post http://forums.majorgeeks.com/index.php?threads/recovery-tool-that-works.300898/

I think I read sometime ago that Windows 10 implants itself onto a system. I think you should be able to do a fresh install of 32 bit windows 10.

I am very happy to have a copy of Acronis True Image 2014 backup software.

I hope that it is recoverable.
    Good luck,

I created this back up using a download tool I came across called macrium. I will look into your usb caddy suggestion.
    Thank you!

Macrium is a first class system backup program but in order to recover your Win 10 backup you need to boot the computer using the Macrium bootable Rescue CD. You create this CD from within the program and if you failed to do that when the computer was working then you would need to install Macrium on another computer that has a CD/DVD burner and create it there. Then, with the external HD plugged in, you boot the computer from the rescue CD, find the backup file and restore it to your C partition.

I was told by a tech guy where I took my HDD to have data taken off, that win10 will not work alongside ubuntu. Has anyone got any information on that, he was pretty vague.

There are quite severe issues to overcome trying to dual boot Windows 10 and Linux on the same system. It requires significant steps to change UEFI, partitions and boot loading, and it still isn't guaranteed to work. On Windows 10, it is far better to run Linux from a USB and not installed.
