Is Opera as secure as FF?

I like Opera better than IE or FF, but much that I read praises FF's security over IE, never mentioning Opera. I'm a careful user of the Internet. Is Opera safe enough?

Internet security is down to the user 90% of the time. in the other 10% of the time browsers are about equal at the moment. Just us whatever browser you feel most comfortable with, run regular anti-malware scans on your computer, and practice safe browsing.

    Thank you!

Just to add to my earlier post, I would recommend downloading and installing all the major browsers. Try them out for an extended period of time, say about 2 weeks, and then make a decision on which one to keep after that. This will not harm your computer in any way at all. Just uninstall whichever ones you reject from add/remove programs or programs and features and you will be fine.

I personally use Opera simply because it is WAY faster than IE (and FF in my opinion)
Your safety comes from watching out where you go.

I agree with collinsl download all the browsers and use them for a period of time and make a choice of your personal favorite and then delete the ones you want to get rid off.

I personally did the same process and now I have mozilla minefield with IE8 for updates.

Thanks for all the replies. Glad to know that Opera is about as safe as the user lets it be. I have tried all the browsers that I know about, and I like Opera the best, even though there are things that I have to use IE or FF for.

Firefox is great for all its extensions / add_ons covering almost any specific need. Opera does not offer the same but, from a security point of view, it's much safer as all firefox extensions cannot be trusted safe !

Browser security is relatively the same between all major browsers. Unfortunately, user initiated security problems are the same every browser as well.

    Hi

I agree totally with your commenton the extentions, as being 3rd party, with all the best will in the world, unregulated extentions and/or ones that may just not fully conform to the guides laid out by Mozilla on 3rd party extention creations are an accident waiting to happen in security terms.

Opera is good and I've been running Opera 10.20 on one PC and the new options for Turbo Speed are not bad even in this early version, wouldnt suggest everyone to run it as its developmental but if you like the sort of testing and it may crash thing then do try it out as generally Opera alpha and betas are pretty stable compaired to IE and Fx

I don't have any extensions on my Firefox. I only use FF or IE when I come across something that doesn't work with Opera--which is too maddenly often to suit me. I have the feeling that IE 8 which I use with both Vista on my laptop and XP with SP3 on my desktop, is about as safe as Firefox--depending upon the user, of course.
