is there a defragment utility for floppy disks?

hi, i am looking for a defragmenter for floppy disks. i know a lot of ppl don't defrag floppy disks, but i do. unfortunately, windows 2000 or XP doesn't support floppy defragmentation anymore (as win98 and ME). if you know of any defragmenter for floppy disks, please tell me. thank you!

 

Copy.

That's right, copy. Copy all the files off your floppy, then wipe the floppy clean (quick format), and then copy them all back. Your floppy should be defragmented.

 

thank you for your suggestion. that's a solution, but i am looking for a utility just like the one in win98/ME, it can defrag floppy.

 

Well, you can probably download defrag that came with ME. The defrag in 9x was bugged, so it was very popular to have the ME version available for download.

However, in all probability you never going to find a program to defrag a floppy. If you're writing to a floppy enough to fragment the files so much that performance suffers, you need to copy the files to the HDD while you work on them.

Beyond having shiny progress bars that give you a warm fuzzy feeling, defragging a floppy isn't going to do anything for performance.

 

thank you for your explanation. it's just that, i guess i am too organized, lol. whenever i use a floppy (such as those with drivers) i defrag it after a few uses. i have been searching for a utility as i mentioned, but haven't found one, and you are right. i was just wondering in the first place if there was one.

Just checked and if you use Norton Systemworks, Speed disk will work on a floppy
