Is There A Non-beta Unmask Parasites Alternative?

Here and there I have used that website Unmask Parasites to check out URLs / websites. As far as I've been able to tell, it seems to work OK. For example, just a while ago it did flag a URL as Suspicious that my avast Anti-Virus has also been flagging for having a Trojan infection attempt, which it blocks successfully.

Now, to my curiosity inquiry. I've noticed that this Unmask Parasites website, as useful as it might be, has been in Beta status forever now. That makes me wonder whether it's still around close to the leading edge of capability of what it's supposed to do ... or is it something that is more of an outdated tool that shouldn't be trusted?

That said ... is there another website, another tool, an App out there that does the same thing as Unmask Parasites that is not in Beta state?

I don't see an Edit Button, so looks like I'll have to make another comment to add some additional info ... at the risk of being reprimanded for making 2 consecutive comments.

Anyway ... out of curiosity, I checked Major Geeks with this Unmask Parasites website and it actually flags Major Geeks as Suspicious because of 2 Suspicious Inline Scripts. Yikes! And I thought that other URL in question was worrisome because of the 1 Suspicious Inline Script that Unmask Parasites found in it. And now here Major Geeks has 2 Suspicious Inline Scripts. I must admit though, that unlike that other URL in question ... Major Geeks doesn't get flagged by my avast Anti-Virus as being a problem.

Regular poster here, Satrow, has a great collection of URL blockers and a very solid strategy. I have only used one add on (for Firefox) that goes by the name Bluhell Firewall. It does block a URL every so often, and I do trust it, but, overall, I am comfortable using it and 360 Total Security's URL blocker together for now. Neither of these tools flags Major Geeks.

I keep waiting for PC security, including URL blocking, to become a science, and I am encouraged more and more with each passing year that we are getting closer to seriously secure baseline of security from free security software. I am expecting URL blocking to be very trustworthy and effective in the not too distant future.

As for Major Geeks, the flag goes to show that security isn't there yet. Is it wrong for the software to flag based on Inline Scripts? No, it isn't wrong in my mind by ANY means, but it does help to remember what your security software is designed to do. In the case of Unmask Parasites, the software is designed to give you the best chance of blocking malware, but it sounds like it is not a software to be considered a pre-determiner of what is safe on the internet. With that kind of software, the user must be in the position to make good choices when it comes to which sites to visit or allow, keeping in mind what the software says about Inline Scripts. I think almost all of the browser security add ons are based on similar premises to one degree or another.

BTW, I run Firefox in the 360 TS sandbox, which has added quite a bit of peace of mind to surfing the internet. It's a little bit awkward and a little bit inconvenient, since I have to fetch known safe downloads out of the sandbox folder to be able to open them or install downloaded programs. Nothing will run in the sandbox, so that's the reason for that. Well, the trade off is worth it to me. If a malicious script does make its way onto the PC, it can't be run while it is inside the sandbox, so it just sits there forever or until I clean out the sandbox.

Anyway, I think that all good security tools have a place. Understanding each tool is important, so that building a solid layer of protection can be achieved. Part of this can be script blocking and URL blocking, but we shouldn't have to sacrifice what we know is good and safe just to be getting the most possible from a security program. All of them at some point find something wrong with a good, clean, and safe site.

With me using Dial Up Internet, I'm not really so much looking for something along the lines of Browser Extensions or URL Blockers or anything that works in Real Time. I don't want anything that'll slow down my already nonexistent Internet Speed. :D I'm looking for something along the lines of On Demand. Something that I can use here and there whenever I want to check a particular URL.

Regarding Unmask Parasites being just one of various tools with which to collectively arrive at a conclusion as to whether a website is safe or not? I understand and agree with your point. However, the thing is, the Inline Script that Unmask Parasites spelled out with the original Suspicious URL in question AND the 2 Inline Scripts it spelled out for Major Geeks are undecipherable Greek to me. The info is there, but I can't do anything with it with my knowledge.

Oooo, Heyyy! THERE you go! That's what I was looking for.
I HAVE used VirusTotal before, but it's been ages. However, I certainly didn't recall it having URL Scanning capability. I just remembered it as being a File Scanner, so that's why it didn't remotely cross my mind to use it for this URL Scanning purpose.

I tried it just now with the original URL in question and the results came out I believe --- 1/66. So yeah, only 1 Scanner out of 66 flagged it as Malicious and another one flagged it as Suspicious. So, it looks like the odds are that the URL is safe.

And I also threw Major Geeks at VirusTotal given that Unmask Parasites had flagged it as Suspicious for those 2 Inline Scripts. The results for Major Geeks came out 0/66 ... completely CLEAN.

Thanks for the link, Dr. Moriarty.

Thanks for the info, AtlBo. Great information all around here so far in my short time at the Major Geeks forum. And great personalities and helpful attitudes ... so far. I haven't come across any negativity or eye-rolling, belittling, demeaning personalities so far.
