   It's more of an annoyance than a true issue, but I've already added the quick launch toolbar, so I don't need the extra 'show desktop' icon on the right-hand side.
   
   Can this extra icon be removed? Or will I just have to live with it?

   You can disable it:
   
   Right click Windows button > Right click Properties > Taskbar Tab > Uncheck Aero Peek
   
   Or just click on the button and uncheck Peek
   
   
   I also found this: http://www.thewindowsclub.com/remove-and-restore-show-desktop-button-with-showdesktop-remover I don't know anything about it though.

   Unfortunately I'm not an administrator, and those options aren't something I can play with. Some of the options we can change, some we can't. Oh, well.
