Sorry man, no such animal AFAIK. If you have XP you can adjust the 'prettiness' of the GUI to reduce RAM usage and therefore increase performance. You can also use Black Viper's suggestions to stop unneeded services to free up some more resources.

What kind of RAM does it need? You can use Crucial.com to find that out. I have a spare stick of PC133 SDRAM 256MB I'll never use. I'll send it to you for free

Silly question...If that were possible, do you think any of us would spend money to buy more RAM? :-D
I'd be spending my money on other things or saving for a newer computer.

    Hey,Red death68

Try increasing your page file also sometimes called virtual memory but wouldnt go much more than 1.5 times the amount of physical system ram not too much difference.

If Xp look at task manager see whats running in the background.

Have a look at the advanced setup of the unit - is it dedicated to run the program files or setup to let the system cache files. Turn off anything like shadows or other desktop viewing options. Also have a look at startup files - delete horrible free programs with potential hidden nasties.

If using video that shares the physical ram typically this can be adjusted in the Bios, if your just using it for a desktop office / inet surfing 8mb should do. Some units allow 128mb or possibly more. If you only have 256mb this can have a big impact on system performance.

Also do the regular file clean out and defrag, if the system is running slow.

If the unit is old the Hard drive could be getting "tired" approx 5+ years depending on maintenance and usage.

    Nice offer from auggie doggie.

Also backup and defrag your registry while your at it.

If your not sure what your system is on the insides? try opening the run menu from start and typing in dxdiag and it may take a 30 seconds or so but will tell you things like cpu and ram - perhaps not the type of ram.

Not sure if system internals will help with ram but i think it does a whole lot of good things as far as identifiying your p.cs insides according to a fellow geek.
Have a look at your invoice or sales slip if you still have it this may shed some light - good luck.

Without being rude a part time job can be helpful, especially if you can get one in a computer shop or at computer recycling shop. Any skills you could trade time for or mow some-ones lawn for a month - second hand ram is pretty cheap.

wish you well in your hunt.

Lifes full of options, its just recognizing them when they occur.

If you have a flash drive you can use a program called eboost that will convert the flashdrive and use it as ram.
