Is there a way to tell the age of my windows installation?

Hello,
Is there any way to tell how long ago my windows was installed? I cannot remember how long ago It was that I did my last clean-sweep.

try checking the date created of the BOOT.INI

 

Nope, boot.ini is only 2 months old, thanks for the tip though

 

Well, then, look at the zero-byte files in the root. C:\io.sys and C:\msdos.sys shd not have been altered since XP was installed, and should be dated with the date of their first creation on that drive.

I have no intention whatsoever of getting into a "my solution is better than yours" contest with you, man, cuz you'd ALWAYS thrash me, BUT ...

AIDA is going to give him the same dates he'll find on io.sys and msdos.sys.

(Your recommendation kills two birds, though, cuz then he'll get a great utility AND find out what his io.sys date is.)

Thanks everyone for the tips,, I think I finally found my accurate install date. The AIDA32 program gave me back an inaccurate date, (I think it was when I installed SP1). But by looking at msdos.sys I know that my installation is just over a year old.

Amazing the amount of crap one can accumulate in a year's time
