Is there any way to get the mouse for a laptop to work without battery?

So as a last ditch effort, I am trying to self fix. I have had my laptop for over a year and a half, only paid $425 and am happy with how long it has lasted. A few months ago my battery started to go, stopped charging and eventually ran to zero percent. My laptop was overheating and shutting down at least twice a day until I just took my battery out and ran with a wall plug-in, and it has not overheated since. Only problem is that my mouse does not work ever now. The USB ports seem work with everything else except my mouse. I have used 3 different mouses and none of them work. Well I have been told that the mouse will not run without a working battery on most laptops. My question is......

Is there any program, or software changes I can make to my laptop to re-route the power or whatever is going on, so that the mouse will work?

I have a Dell Vostro 1000. I told myself that I wasn't going to sink any money into this thing, mostly because I do want a pc and am trying to get it to last ;long enough to save up for a newer nicer one.

I read it on another forum. If you have an actually process for me to get the mouse to work, I would be very appreciative.

And check the device manager if it is listed or not, post back I may have a fix.

Haha, so funny. I went next store to my buddies house to borrow his wired mouse and it worked. The three that I used was all wireless. Why the difference?

Maybe because you didn't install the drivers for the wireless meeses?

Sometimes the mouse and dongle have to be synced (pin hole buttons on each), or you have a driver conflict. I'd uninstall and mouse drivers (Except touchpad obviously) and reinstall properly. Check your device manager for any errors/conflicts as well.

Go back and read his post again. He removed the laptop battery, not the mouse battery. If his laptop runs with the main battery out, then his mouse should work fine. I often run my Compaq Presario notebook PC directly off the AC power adapter, i.e. with computer battery removed, and my wireless mouse works just the same as when I'm running my computer with it's main battery in.
