Is this a good defrag?

I'm getting very low FPS when playing games even though my PC's up to it. I just cleaned my computer of spyware/viruses etc so it cant be that.

The other thing that may slow my PC down is the defragment. Here's the pic:

After the defrag, shouldnt all the white cells move to the right? As it is it seems no defragment took place.

Doesn't look like it defragged much. Iobit SmartDefrag is a good defragger. Check your settings and try it from safe mode.

It sure looks just as you describe. Just as a precaution run a Disk Check before you defragment. Open My Computer, Right click on Local Disk C , choose Properties, go to Error checking, choose Check Now, check both Check Disk Options (Automatically fix system file errors, and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors. You will need to reboot so Disk Check has exclusive access. It takes a little time but you should check the disk before a defrag. I personally prefer Jkdefrag as it is not an installed application, you can run it by clicking the executable file in its folder and does a good job of defragmenting. I have used Iobit w/o any problems, but prefer Jk. Safe Mode is definitely the way to go unless there are extenuating circumstances.:D(Some older laptops run hot doing a defrag in safe mode)

I don't think you have enough contiguous free space for defrag to work properly.

Copy some stuff off your disk or uninstall some programs. Then try again.

You have to run a defragger again and again until there is no visible improvement. Each time it gets faster and faster until it take only a minute or two.

    Following on from studiot's advice.;)
You need at least 15% of your hard drive space free, to do a quicker defrag, otherwise defrag may not work.

If you haven't defragged for a while, or never defragged, it can take many hours depending on the capacity of your hard drive, the number of files on it and the extent of the fragmentisation (non-contiguous files is the techy term :D).

Probably best to run it overnight, disconnected from the Net and with as little else running, as possible. Bazza

You don't have a page file on that drive do you? Must be on another drive or your RAM is sufficient. I'd still vote for Jkdefrag against Iobits Beta3 or Microsofts program. And as Studio T noticed you are low on space, I think Microsoft recommends 20% for their defrag progrm and it looks like shrinking the page file is not an option, give Jkdefrag a try, I recall that program requires about 10%. and one run will do the trick.

FYI the following files are permanently excluded from the Microsoft defragmenter. The paging file in particular is not touched.

    Master File tabel
    bootsect.dos
    safeboot.fs
    safeboot.csv
    safeboot.rsv
    hiberfil.sys
    memory.dmp
    paging file

I have well over 30% of my C drive free. I'm rerunning my defragment tool until it only takes minutes to complete.

I think it's time for a reformat.. I'm going to make a thread about how to do it. Thanks for all the help though guys!
