Is this a Java problem?

Back in January I disabled Java after the State Department issued its alert. I don't use this computer much or I'd have noticed this problem sooner, but when I click on links from say, a Tripadvisor page, nothing happens. As I recall, the advice to disable Java usually came with assurances that most sites work fine without it but I'm having this problem fairly often. Does this sound like a disabled Java problem? Could it be something else? I'd appreciate your thoughts.

There are sites like Scottrade that require the Java Runtime Environment to be installed and active in order to interact with them.

I suggest that you download and install the latest version of the JRE and activate it for your Tripadvisor page and see if that solves the issue and then deactivate Java immediately thereafter once your done with the site.

At least then you'll know if Java is required for that site or others you may visit.

Just wondering if you've tried a different browser, I.E., Chrome, or Opera? If not, see if you still have the same problems using Internet Explorer.

As mdonah said, there are some sites that require Java, however, I have Java disabled and I had no problems with the links I tried on Tripadvisor(using Opera).

Also might check to see if you have JavaScript enabled in Firefox. It could be disabled either through Firefox in options or via the NoScript add-on.

Java is NOT the problem. I'm using Win 7 Home premium 64bit and Java has never been installed on this computer.
I accesses it fine in FF 21.
Now, if you have javascript, not to be confused with java, turned off, you do need to enable js on that page.
If you have noscript in the tray, enable tripadvisor and tacdn and the links will work fine.

Right you are. Javascript needed to be enabled. Thanks!
