Is this a macro?

I'm working in MS Word 2003, I want to type a code ( D001 ) and then get a sentence or a paragraph automatically entered without the code. I do a lot of typing and most of the time I enter the same information. This is set up to type the code (D001) then the paragraph will automatically be entered but not the code. I'm told this sounds like a macro but I'm not familiar with macros. I didn't set this up on the computer. Any help you can give me would be appreciated.

I find the wording of your message incoherent. As your system is configured now, does typing D001 insert the text you want inserted or not?

If you system is, indeed, already doing that, then your're apparently asking whether that functionality is coming from a macro. Is that your basic question?

sounds like you nay have something in your "auto correct" that translates your "code" into something else. Or is this what you are trying to do. In that case use the autocorrect function.

The machine I'm working on is set up so when I put in a code (D001) I'll get a sentence or a paragraph that was already set up. Sort of like an auto correct feature. I'll put in the code and it will be replaced by something else. I want to add more things to this list and correct a few others. Also I want to do this on a different machine, but I don't know how. This is stored in the auto text feature. But when I when I try to add this using the autotext feature, the code is still visable.

Yes, it sounds like the AutoCorrect function is doing this. Go to the Tools menu and select AutoCorrect Options. Select the AutoCorrect tab if not already selected. In the Replace box, type a D or the full D001. You should see D001 in the list below the Replace box, and it should have the text, that's being inserted, there. You can edit that text there.

Let us know if this works.

To add to my previous post:

Yes, you can add more codes there for other text. Just enter a new code in the Replace box and enter the text in the With box, then click on Add.

As far as getting those codes working in another computer, you may have to add them manually. Copy and paste to a file you can open on the other computer to make this easier. Now, I think there may be an easier way, but I'm not absolutely sure about this. Anyway, here's my guess. If both computers have the same version of Word, copy the Normal.dot file from the computer that has the codes to the other computer, replacing the Normal.dot file on the other computer. Normal.dot is a template in which all your preference settings such as default font, active toolbars, etc. are stored. Keep in mind that, if you do this, you'll lose existing preference settings in the computer to which you copy the Normal.dot file. On that computer, you may want to change the name of your existing Normal.dot file, before you do that copying from that other computer, so that it can be restored if necessary or desired.

When I use auto correct the code is replaced by the description and the insertion bar is at the end of the sentence. When I use autotext the code stays at the beginning of the sentence, and the insertion bar goes to the next line. There is a set up in place where the code is typed and the description replaces the code and the insertion bar goes to the next line, then you have non stop typing, no hitting enter or going back to delete unwanted codes.
