Is this about:blank? I am seriously confused

Occasionally, when I click on a link that opens a new window or tab, about:blank flashes for about a second in my browser where the web address is displayed. Almost immediately this goes away and the correct web address is shown in its place. An example of where this is consistently happening to me is when I try to download the free trial of Adobe Acrobat Pro X from Adobe's webiste--it opens up an Akamai download window that flashes about:blank before displaying the correct adobe address. It also happened with an article link at the Huffington Post website earlier today. I tried everything I could think of, including following the steps of the stickied Malware Removal Guide on here, and eventually formatted my computer (formatted all partitions). After installing all the available Windows updates (Windows 7), I installed Firefox and then AVG. I went to Adobe's free trial download to see if the text about:blank flashed again, and sure enough it did. I don't see how any malware could remain on my computer...the only devices that are connected are my usb wireless adapter and my wireless mouse. Does this make sense to anyone? Is my computer infected or am I just being paranoid? I have not had my homepage changed or my browser redirected; the only symptom I am aware of is the text "about:blank" being displayed in my browser where the web address would be displayed otherwise. Thanks in advance for any help, I am seriously confused at this point.

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

No this is nothing like what an about:blank infection is. It just sounds like you have delays in loading your webpages or you have some software or addons for your browser that may be blocking various ads/pages.

We can check your PC for malware if you wish, but you will have to attach the logs we asked for since you say you ran our procedures. But what you are describing has absolutely nothing to do with an about blank infection which no one has really had for many years now. They are passe.

As long as seeing "about:blank" in the browser isn't a sign of anything dangerous I'm not going to worry about it for now. I appreciate your offer to check my computer, but I think I'll take you up on that another time if my computer has more serious symptoms (also I would have to go through the procedures again since formatting deleted all the logs). It's good to know this website is here, I've been reading through it and it's an invaluable resource. Thanks again, hopefully I won't have to post again but if I do it's good to know I have the option.
