    Note when installing XP, XP was designed long before SATA came about, when IDE drives (later called PATA) were the standard. But SCSI, which had already been around for many years (mostly on servers), was supported by XP, but only if you loaded the special drivers when prompted during the XP install.

    The thing is, and where some confusion has come from, it is when prompted for the SCSI drivers that you could install SATA drivers to get XP to support SATA drives.

    Later versions of Windows supported SATA so you did not have to go through that hassle.
