I bought Microsoft office for my family. When one member of my family went overseas to study, she took it with her and loaded it onto her PC in the UK. Now MS are after her to register or it will stop working after 20 more uses.

    I told her to register.

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks

Depends on how many pcs and the type you bought, unless you paid for a volume key lisence, in which case you can install on as many machines as you paid for with the one key.

2 activations are allowed. One one a desktop, one on a laptop. Do you fall within this category? If yes, then its legal :)

No, they are both desktops I'm afraid.

What is likely to happen when she tries to register?

Probably nothing unless frequently happening then micorsoft will probably start to wonder.

Well, she's at university so she does use if often. :(

I don't mind paying if I have to. I just thought it would be okay to use the "family" software.

Well, two computers are two computers. MS would never know its not a laptop, and as far as I'm concerned, subject to interpretation.

I'd say you are fine, legally.

    :)

It should activate fine, if this is the second computer.

They wouldn't know. As long as its only two computers, its perfectly within the EULA.
