So tv-links is dead. The owner of the site was arrested and can be charged with “participating in organized crime” which I can kind of understand. What I don’t understand is why go after him? All he did was provide links to various sites (like youtube, google video, veoh, tudou, stage 6) where the videos were uploaded to those sites. Why not go after the sites that actually UPLOAD the stuff?

Yes, I know downloading is illegal but linking? CBS and Fox link to their shows which is perfectly legal but if I were going to that would be wrong? Tv-links tried its best to provide no way to download from these sites, but if you really want to I guess you will find a way right? But in the fashion of the internet, were tv-links disappears 2 more will pop up in its place.

I just think it’s a shame that they are going after the guy providing the links instead of the actual sites themselves.

    Good link Dyamond :)

I would imagine that a lot of people wonder about the copyright implications of a lot of web sites, it appears to be very much a grey area at the moment.

Anti-piracy legislation seems so futile, too. If you stop it in one country, the offenders move out of that jurisdiction.

If you manage to throttle pirate traffic, the pirates encrypt their traffic.

Meanwhile, artists try to adapt, offering free downloads, pay-what-you-will offerings, etc.

I'd suggest the anti-piracy movement is about as effective as prohibition, or the war on drugs.

They also killed isohunt recently which was like a search engine but for torrents. Also, Comcast in the States is blocking or severely limiting torrent traffic. What will happen to all the legitimate uses that torrents are being used for?

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IsoHunt

    "Lawsuit
In February 2006 it was announced that the MPAA had launched legal proceedings against isoHunt, TorrentBox, TorrentSpy, ed2k-it, and several other BitTorrent indexing or tracker sites, alleging that these sites facilitate copyright infringement. This is despite the fact that similar results can be obtained by using generic search engines such as Google; the validity of the MPAA's case is thus arguable under United States copyright law, specifically, DMCA "Safe Harbor" provisions. On February 28, 2006 a lawsuit was filed against Gary Fung in the District Court of Southern New York. Fung has shown no sign of voluntarily closing isoHunt and stands to oppose the MPAA on legal grounds.[citation needed] On August 18, 2006, Judge Stanton granted a motion for case transfer from New York to California on the grounds of inconvenienced parties and similar cases already filed in the District Court of Central California.

As of September 2007, the case is undergoing Motions of Summary Judgment and preparing for trial."

Seems to me in relation to both tvlinks and isohunt that they are "shooting the messenger"

Seems so, I guess its easier to target the "little" guy then going after a giant like google rolleyes

Interesting, we'll see if it will fly. I can remember when they imposed a tax on blank media that it would go to the musicians, ya right!rolleyes At least the playing field is more level regards to the big music producers, they can publish the music themselves, cutting out the greedy middle man.

I wonder then if the people who set up new ones will go to prison too? Or will they find a legal loop-hole :)

G, there are already so many (I mean many!) other sites like tv-links. I just dont understand why they dont go after the sites that upload the vids instead.
