    Hi,

This is what my computer has:

    - Biostar TFORCE 6100-939 mobo which supports dual channel DDR
    - Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 SATA 3.0Gb/s 320Gb hard drive (RAID array not set up)
    - AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ Toledo 2.2GHz 2 x 512KB L2 Cache Socket 939 Processor
    - ARCTIC COOLING Freezer 64 Pro 92mm CPU Cooler
    - Corsair 620W PSU
    - Ballistix 2x1G RAM, 184-pin DIMM, 128MX64 DDR PC3200, Unbuffered
    - NORCO-4618 PCI-X / PCI eSATA / SATA II / SATA I Controller Card RAID 0/1/5/10/JBOD
    - Windows XP X64, SP2
    - NetFramework 2.0 Redistributable Pack for X64

The cpu and hsf are new.

I have a few minor problems with my pc so I want to format it. I have the drivers for everything except the cpu. I found this page that looks like it has the driver that I need, but I've missed the mark several times for other things, so I want to make sure that this is the one:

    http://www.amd.com/us-en/Processors/TechnicalResources/0,,30_182_871_13118,00.html

Before I do anything that I wish I hadn't, can someone tell me if this is the right driver for my cpu? It doesn't say "Toledo" or "Socket 939".

    Thanks, Denise

That is the same driver that i used when running xp with my 3800 x2, no problems, this driver will allow your cpu to go into a lower state while idle, creating less heat while idle. ed

I've been looking around the net. I may be wrong, but is this driver an option or a requirement? I've read that it enhances performance for gaming.

My old cpu required a driver. Does the new one, AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ Toledo 2.2GHz 2 x 512KB L2 Cache Socket 939 Processor, require a driver?

it's not required but it helps "optimize" the cpu's operation so IMHO I would download and install it :)

    Hi,

I just finished formatting my pc. I don't have all my programs installed but all the necessary ones are installed, plus some.

Ok, you're gonna love this . . . After I installed Avast and other security programs, I went to the Microsoft update site. I installed Net Framework 2.0 and a few other recommended updates. I had to reboot between each one, np. The last update it gave me was SP 2. It was in the middle of downloading/installing it when it stopped and I received the warning that says that the program isn't responding and needs to shut down. It was so ironic that I could barely believe it. The whole reason for the format was to eliminate the little pesty things like that.

But, with the clean install, I know there aren't any little bugs wandering around my c drive, or I hope not, anyway.

I installed the driver for the cpu but I haven't had a chance to give the pc a workout to see if it makes a difference. But I think with all the new hardware and software that I just put in, there'll be a lot of changes in the way the pc operates so it'll be hard to tell what's causing what.

I'm a little upset that the tech shop wouldn't just remove the fan for me instead of installing the new cpu and heat sink and fan because now I can't say that I built it myself anymore. In hindsight, I should've plopped down the $30.00 and had him just remove the brackets holding the fan. I could've then brought it home and installed the new parts myself. The grease wouldn't have been coming out the sides of the heat sink if I had.

It's after 6 am here and I haven't gone to bed yet and, as you can more than likely tell, when I'm tired, I can talk up a storm. I still have a lot of programs to install and I bought the SATA HUB that I'll be connecting when I sort out the jumble of wires I have with 15 ext hdds.

Have a great day/night. Again, thank you all for helping me and answering my hundreds of questions. You're all a great group but I'm sure you know that you haven't heard the last of me . . . LOL
