I installed vista 2 years ago and team fortress classic was really laggy so i put vista back on..

Vista is alright for gaming now. You can get software (and freeware) for everything. This is true for Vista x32 as well as for Vista x64. Finally it seems to be over for the Vista 64-bit users. Only one important specialist malware cleaning tool is not ready for x64. All else, that matters, is.

XP i dead. Support has ended, Microsoft says.

I must confess that I know very little about the different flavors in Vista but I haven't seen any special issues concerning Vista Ultimate. But lets hear what other users have to say...

I have vista ultimate, i play games like cod4/5, red alert 3, etc...I don't have any problems with the newer games, and have been able to play older ones as well. I'm not too sure I really need anything that has come with the Ultimate version of vista, like media center. So my guess is Home premium would have been fine for me. the aero interface is just something to make it look nicer, but not necessary. here's the comparison for the diff versions:

I would recommend going with the 64 bit version. The OS itself is faster, so is 64 bit software, no 3GB RAM limitation and more software producers are starting to offer 64 bit programs. It runs most 32 bit programs without issues. Even the OEMs, who are generally risk averse, are shipping systems running the 64 bit OS.

I am running Vista Ultimate 86X32 and it is fast (no lagging,) the only thing is i am running a Nvida GTX295 card but 9800 is a superb card.

The only major differences between vista home premium and vista ultimate are BitLocker drive encryption (which only works if you have a TPM chip on your motherboard), the ability to join a domain, and the ability to use remote desktop. Otherwise, there are no major differences (that I can remember.rolleyes)

But, personally, I would wait another few months with XP and get windows 7 when it comes out, as it looks very promising from what I have seen of it.

Precisely. Wait for Windows 7 - it's almost here.
