Is your Vaio laptop overheating?

    I bought my much loved Vaio from a "friend" at a great price- turns out he thought it was about to bite the dust because of the overheating problem which I found is endemic with the Vaio. It didn't take me much searching to find some recourse for this. Here is a link that gives a great, really easy to use walk through to clean the grunge out, which is your first step:
    http://www.hibco.com/vaio/ Just make sure you have the proper tiny screwdrivers and midgety pliers (sorry for the high tech terms there!) on hand so you don't have to run to the hardware like I did my first time out! Your basic multi tool doesn't cut it, lol, and I lost my tools in the divorce!rolleyes I suspect I will have to replace my internal fan, it is a piece of crap quite frankly, but this is getting me through quite fine, and my laptop does heavy service for me, it is in use constantly, with a LOT of multi-tasking.
    I still sometimes have problems, usually when I am running Instant View movies from Netflix or that kind of high demand. For the time being, I have an 8" fan from walmart I just tuck right in up against the right hand corner of my laptop where the monitor meets the keyboard. Works a charm- also I installed Notebook Hardware Control which is a lifesaver (or, a laptop saver!) I would not do without this again. link: http://www.pbus-167.com/ This allows me to monitor the temp and warns me when it gets too high.
    The fan solution is not very portable, so I am going to buy a Coolmaster NotePal notebook cooler- I checked around and the reviews are very favorable, as is the price- Ebay has quite a few new for very reasonably, which is good for people like me that live in the back of beyond and don't have transportation. I'll let y'all know how it works when I get it next month. I flipped out when this first happened, not being accustomed to laptops, don't want it to happen to you! So, I win out and the sneaky civilian who thought he was unloading a dying notebook lost- he should have checked MajorGeeks, but I doubt he'd make it through Basic Training- but I'm not bitter...:p

    Good link Kat.

    I would like add a pack of fancy chocolates/ chocolate biscuits.

    Eat the chocolates ;
    then use the compartmented wrapper to place all the little screws for each section of your Vaio so you will know where they all belong after cleaning.

    Oh, Major, that is just SHEER BRILLIANCE! I was using a little teacup- but the gratification of the chocolates first, work next really is COOL. However, I am biased- if it involves chocolates, or good biscuits, I'm right there.

    Very nice disassembly photos.
    I don't have a Sony Vaio but I think I'll eat the chocolates just in case I have to take my HP notebook apart. :clap

    I am very down with this. I think if you live in a seasonal place like I do, and Dairy Queen has just opened, you need to get a sundae or a banana split before you even THINK of doing rehabs on your computer- we MUST keep our strength up. Failing that Dr. kat prescribes cheesy poofs and many viewings of trash tv. We owe it to the troops. We can't be any good to each other if we are suffering a junk food deficiency- who knows what we'll do? We may start formatting things or listening to Abba, or missing our baseball games. It would be disasterous. I want the troops to download massive amounts of Dropkick Murphys music and stock the fridge with Tina's cheese and beef burritos. You owe it to those who need you.
