Isn't it annoying when....

....you try to investigate strange noises you think are from your computer, and it turns out it's not?

For example, I thought my old computer was buzzing. Turns out it was the radio built into my bedside clock. The cat accidentally turned it on by sitting on it :-D

And just now, I was opening a program up, and I thought my hard drive was roaring. Turns out it was an airplane overhead. (There's a small airport about 20 miles from here, so we hear a lot of airplanes). :-D

 

Try siting at your computer and you hear a beep every min or so and you even call a friend to ask about beep codes and it turns out its a almost dead cordless phone behind the computer beeping to tell you its almost dead.

 

It can be annoying. Just keep in mind that most problems are at the physical layer, so look for easy stuff before trying to find the high tech stuff. :-D

 

Easiest solution is to just power the comp down if there any unexplained noises. If the noise still persist when the 'puter is off, then it's a pretty fair bet it aint the computer that's making funny noises. I did get a tad confused buy a cellphone blipping underneath my computer desk, once. But hey, at least I found my cellphone.

Been there many a time. Good days.

 

One time my mom asked me why her computer was roaring. I proceeded to go to the kitchen next to the living room and turn off a running tap.

 

we had a digital watch stuck somewhere that used to go off every now and then. could never find it. suppose it was stuck in the floorboards.

went on for years...

 

My computer noise :-o after a lengthly investigation was my cell phone (low bat) :heli
