ISP throttling torrents

So I switched to a new ISP (Rogers) and the download speeds from regular sites are great, up to 700 kb/s. Then I tried downloading with bittorrent and the speeds were horrible. Some clients were as low as 500 BYTES/s.

I did a bit of research and found out the ISP has been trying to throttle torrents. I tried numerous clients that had random-port use and encryption that should increase speeds. I tried bityrant, shadow's, utorrent, and bitcomet. Some were better than others, but none were fast. I think I got 30 kb/s tops, despite a large number of seeds.

Oh yeah, I'm not using any firewalls or routers and torrents worked fine with my last ISP with the same configuration.

 

Zbd21, Not really, i leave my linux boxes hooked directly to the net all the time. Don't assume things that you don't know. Now if your isp throttles torrents there don't usually rely on ports, but packet examination. Your not gonna figure out any way to get around it easy.

 

Yeah, the encryption that some clients promised was supposed to avoid the packetsniffing, supposedly. The problem, of course, didn't seem to lessen even with the encryption.

 

Now something that may work for you, is a friend with a different high speed provider that can download stuff for you, and burn to dvd what not? Thats what many of my friends in the dorms with limited connections and I do.
