    Hi all,

I am returning back to sky after changing to BT for only about 48 hours. Thats another story though. Anyway, i was
still in contract so it was easy enough to go back to them. So far they have taken back the tv and broadband service.
Anyway, only 2 weeks ago i was getting a constant 9MB download speed just as i always did with Sky, now that i have gone
back i am getting 0.37MB download and 0.67MB upload. I am using the exact same modem, phoneline, package and everything else as i was 2 weeks ago.
I know you have to keep the modem switched on for 1st 10 days but that has been the constant speed im now getting. I called them and
they said that work was being done on the exchange server, could that lessen it by nearly 9MB really??? and should i get back the speed i did have
only a short while ago? Is there any way of checking if work really is being done as i know how they like to flog you off with all sorts of excuses? If so, where could i find out this info?

Any help with any of these question would really put my mind at ease a bit. Thank you all in advance.

    Andy

    Hi

Yes very plausable that if work is going on at the local exchange that your speeds may drop to dialup speeds, how long have you kept the modem on for upto now from changing back?

If you wish to check on work done on an exchange then phone BT support up and ask, but SKY's Service Status page is HERE and doesnt list any issues, but this is not uncommon for ISPs to not highlight all issues.

Can find your local exchange code from HERE, just type in your postcode and the exchange code name will show on the page, then call BT up and ask if work is being done to that exchange as your SKY broadband which will go via a BT exchange is not working fully, they should help you out, but at times they will pass the buck back to SKY (as your ISP).

thanks for that info. Get this though. BT said they could not submit that information to me as i was not staff. What a joke but laugh at the same time.

Now you can see why i was only with them a very short period.

That sounds real crappy man as our ISP has an automated system which links one's phone # when you call them to my geographical location and gives a recorded message if there are issues in my area. Man, 2 days with an ISP! That's got to be a record!roflmao

I know it's not funny for you or anyone else when one gets the runaround but then when there are two companies involved it's inevitable. Good luck.
