I am trying to connect my Canon ZR80 Mini DV Camcorder to my recently purchased Dell XPS M1330. I purchased a 4 pin to 4 pin firewire cable to connect the camcorder to the computer’s IEEE 1394 port. The cable seemed to connect fine with the computer and camcorder, but Windows Vista does not seem to be recognizing the camcorder, when turned on. I am not sure what the problem is. I am not sure if is there is an issue with cable or a compatibility issue between Microsoft Vista and the camcorder. I don’t see any drivers that seem applicable on the Canon support web page. Any advice or direction would be greatly appreciated.

Go ahead and try another firewire cable first. It could indeed be an incompatibility issure since Vista is known to do those kinds of things.
