Issue Starting up Windows

    Hi Guys,
    Well, you guys have been a great help in the past and I hope someone can help me again today. I just recently installed the new version of Internet Explorer. I typically use Fire Fox but one of the sites i needed for work would work in it so i needed to use Explorer. Explorer wasn't working so I figured I'd reboot. Windows asked to install updates and restart. Once it finished installing and restarted, it went to the black windows startup task-bar screen and once it is done with that, goes to black screen...no error or blue screen of death.
    I am able to get into safe mode fine and have tried 5 different restore points with no change.
    Is there anything you guys can tell me that i should try? I am running Windows XP.

    Hi

    You mention updating Internet Explorer but to what version? also you're mentioning Explorer and I would guess that you mean IE, but Explorer and Internet Explorer are two different entities, so if wanting to shorten Internet Explorer do use IE and we all cannot guess what app you mean.

    In safe mode, are their any errors in Event Viewer at around the crash? which may have a code and erroring component to help us figure out the issue.


    If can get into safe mode, try add/remove and uninstall the version of IE you installed if listed as it should be, if not then try the below from a Run or CMD line.


    IE7
    %windir%\ie7\spuninst\spuninst.exe

    IE8
    %windir%\ie8\spuninst\spuninst.exe


    Also as it can make a difference what Service Pack is your XP at?

    I also have a black screen after the Windows screen - no LogOn page...
    and in Safe Mode I only see the "Safe Mode" borders. No Start Menu.

    I installed JING when this happened, but all other characteristics are the same...

    were you able to work out you'ree problem?
