Hello; this all started when Gmail stopped allowing one of my accounts from logging in from Outlook 2007, Google stated OL 2007 was not secure; see tread :
    https://forums.majorgeeks.com/threads/gmail-rejected-outlook-log-in.321893/#post-2038744.

After many hours of work and the expert help of Earthling, I moved to the resident Mail program of my Windows 10 PC. I have two accounts set up as IMAP, the migration did not move all of my folders over and the current Mail program does not let me create additional folders. I have been working with this and it is starting to impact me being able to manage and save my mail.

I left the Old Outlook on my PC which contains all my folders, address book, and calendar. Considering purchasing a copy of MS office 2016 on Amazon (Not sure if you can just buy Outlook).

My question is can I install Office 2016 on top of Office 2007 and how do I migrate the folders, contact, and calendar. once this is up and working I will delete the two email accounts from Mail.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thank You
    VV

The can't create folders issue in Mail could possibly be because you have MS Outlook open and connected at the same time. If so, close it as it is not necessary for what you are trying to do. That might also finish the job of synchronising your folders in Mail with the Gmail servers. MS Mail is rock solid and is not the cause of this folder issue.

Hello Earthling; thank you for your reply. Outlook 2007 has been closed when I started the migration and is currently closed, have just been using it for storage of my old mail, address book, and calendar. IS there a way to resync mail with my outlook? So many folders are missing. My job starts up next week and we generate a larges amounts of mail and the old mail for reference.

That being said I am really comfortable with the Outlook environment, Can I install Outlook 2016 on top of 2007? How will the folder format? I intend to install all of the office's suite, Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.

That isn't how things work. Your client, Mail, syncs with the Gmail servers, not with Outlook. The folders Mail has now are the only folders Gmail knows about. The missing ones were created in Outlook but never got to sync them with Gmail. You could verify this by opening Gmail in a browser and looking at its folders. If that's wrong please let me know.

But what you are saying now is that you want Outlook, in fact all of Office, back and working. Personally I detest Office and use it as little as I possibly can so I'm not able to advise you on how to do a complete migration from Outlook 2007 to Outlook 2016. All I'm reasonably sure of is that you can't have two different versions of Office installed and operational at the same time. Someone here may possibly be able to help but I think you will need to go through all this with an Outlook forum.

If I have any further thoughts on this I'll let you know, as you are clearly in a bit of a box right now.

I Checked the Gmail server you are right most of my folders were set up in Outlook, which really doesn't help me, to recover the functionality of the outlook folders in Mail.
Thank you for all your help. I will be checking with the Outlook form for advice. Will post here to let you know the outcome.

    You said this previously -

That being said, the troubleshooting process created its own issues, deleting the and recreating the account created another inbox path and added to my folder tree, which I will address after I applied the fix.

Might it be possible in Outlook to highlight and drag the folders from the Inbox they are in now to the Inbox you want them in? I have always found Outlook to tolerate this sort of thing. If that is possible you could then apply the fix Gmail requires in order to accept input from Less Secure Apps and sync Outlook to Gmail.

Another possible fix might be to merge the two .pst files, though I don't really know how Outlook deals with .pst data files when using IMAP as opposed to POP3 so you need additional advice before trying that.

I can think of other possibilities too and do feel a fix ought to be possible, perhaps along these lines, but recommend you take copies of all the .pst files before trying any of these suggestions.

You can. However, you can only have one version of Outlook installed.
Also, everytime you switch from one version of Word, Excel, etc. to the other, the latter shows a 'configuring' dialogue box.

Yeah, that fits my experience, but it's two Outlooks the OP needs.

Earthling & Eldon, thank you both for your help. I was able to install Office 2016 on top of the old Office 2007, the install automatically picked up all my folders, contact, and calendar. I just need to do some small housekeeping. I just uninstalled the old 2007 Office Suite.

Did you get advice that that would be OK or did you just decide to risk it?

Morning Earthling; I did not see anything that expressly stated it would not work so off I went!!
Noticed one issue with the default mail setting since removing the old Outlook, will check that out shortly. All in all, I am very happy

OK, you got a bit lucky this time ;) It's generally a good idea to take a system image or at least do a data backup before risking something you aren't too sure about. Then you've a way back to where you were if there's a problem. Anyway, very pleased you have it all sorted.

I actually did a local backup of the .PST data and also have a current backup in my Carbonit account in the cloud.
