Issues with Microsoft Word

Hi, I'm in the IT department for a school district and I am in need of help! I am not sure how this happened, but here is the chain of events that lead up to this point:

About a week ago, a secretary in the office requested a inkjet color printer (Lexmark Z45) in place of her black and white laserjet (HP1100). I suggested that she keep the speedy laserjet because it worked fine, but she wanted to risk the slow printing speed for the color. I went ahead and swapped them out, and a couple days later she wanted the 1100 back because the Z45 was too slow. Very annoying. So, being nice, I swapped them back. It was an easy swap because I never removed the old printer driver since I had a feeling this would happen. I printed a test page and everything seemed fine. The next day, I got a page saying that her Microsoft Word files were messed up. Sure enough, every document in her folder was formatted incorrectly or had weird fonts and characters scattered throughout and at the end of the documents. I dont know if this has anything to do with the printer swap, but that is the only change to her system. I don't know much about the computer except that it has a Windows 98 OS. Please help!
