Issues With Speakers/headphones In Windows 10

Ok I just upgraded to Windows 10 from 7 over the weekend. It was a smooth transition. But I am having one issue and while it may seem trivial to some, it is a big deal to me since I go from headphones to speakers quite a bit. So here are my issues and I have tinkered with and searched all around and found nothing.

1. When I plug in my headphones, Windows 10 does not automatically detect this and keeps the sounds coming out of the speakers. In any other computer/phone I have, when headphones are inserted, it detects this and plays the sound out of those and mutes the speakers. And vice versa when ejected.

2. The only way I have found to do anything about is to manually change from speakers to headphones and vice versa in the Sound settings. Seeing as much as I go back and forth, this is a huge pain. If Windows 7 and below and any generic phone has the capability of detecting the switch, why can't Windows 10.

By searching, it seems to be a big problem for many but no real clear cut solution. All my drivers are up to date according to a program and me manually checking.

Anyone know of any solutions? Thank you.

 

Is this system a Lenovo by any chance? My Lenovo Thinkpad has always had this problem.

 

Sorry I should have stated what I have.

I have a Toshiba Satellite L655. I had none of these issues on Windows 7.

Also, everytime I reboot, Headphones now becomes the default sound device. I want it to where Headphones is only an option when they are plugged into the headphones jack. For some this may be trivial but it's a big issue for me.
