1st two things to check are heat and power.

    I disagree.

First things to check would be:

    What OS is this?

What video card, and driver version?

Please let us know. A reboot in Windows 2K/XP/2003 has nothing to do with power or heat 99% of the time. The OSes are designed to reboot on a fatal system event (stop error).

I have Windows XP pro, and my a ATI Radeon 9800 Pro (R350). When I got this about a month ago I installed all drivers with it. Also I was just playing and my monitor just shut off and wrote down the info it gave me. Here it is as stated:

    Monitor is working
    Input: 2:177.2kHz/4Hz
    Change signal timing

Does this mean anything please let me know. ;)

Go to system properties, click on advanced tab.
Click on Settings, under Startup and Recovery.
Uncheck automatically restart, under system failure.

Post the stop error message next time you crash.

    Ok, netxt step.

Right click my computer, go to manage.

    Go to Event Viewer.

    Look under System.

Look for a source of System Error and double click the log.

Paste the contents of what you see.

Chooswe a couple of them, and post both, if the info doesn't match.

I think we are dealing with an Infinite Loop stop error, which can manifest itself as a blue screen, reboot, or a black screen (video shuts off).

    Yep.

    Its an Infinite Loop error.

    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;314215

Its a driver error. You need to find a driver version that works for you, if you have the latest.

If you want more precise info, zip and atttach the memory dump file from today and yesterday.

    They are kept in C:\windows\minidump.

In order, of wjhat you posted, driver name and stop error:

    kmixer.sys, Stop 0x50
    portcls.sys, Stop 0x50
    kmixer.sys, stop 0x7e
    win32k.sys, stop 0x50

At this point, update your video drivers (try the slighly older catalyst drivers), sound drivers.

    Go to regedit:
    Backuyp this key:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\DirectX

    Then delete it.

    Reboot.

    Download and install:

    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...11-62FE-4F61-ABA1-914185249413&displaylang=en

If that doesn't help, check your ram with memtest86 from this site.

As well, get your CPU temperatures, and voltages listed in the bios and post them.

Memtest is used to test your ram for errors. It happened to me a little while ago. I think you have to save it to a floppy and then it will run as you are booting up. Did you try that? Anyway good luck and I am sure adrynalyne will keep helping ya if its not bad ram.

    take it easy
