items in window task manager

i am wondering what should be in the windows task manager. i have probably around 100 items under image name and i'm wondering if i need them all?

100 items seems a little excessive.....

It depends on what your computer is used for I guess but an average might be around 30 - 50, The workstation I am on now has 24 but my main workstation has 44.

 

If you boot to "safe mode" and check your processes, they are the essential ones that "have to" run. And like Matt pointed out, 100 is very extream. You might have malware or just bunch of processes that doesn't need to be running.
Check your programs and unistall all the programs you don't use anymore. Also, you could type in "msconfig" at Run prompt and see the startup menu. If you whole lot of startups, you may need to turn off some. HOWEVER, this changes system's app configurations! Be very carefull when you do this, or you'll harm your computer.

 

If you need to you can attach a hjt log so we can see the o4 entries and running processes.

if you need to do this please ensure you ATTACH the log. please do not just copy and paste it.

i am a total rookie when it comes to this so i'll first try and uninstall unused programs and see how it goes. thanks for the great info but right now it seems way too advanced for me.
